There’s hardly a country in the world that does not know South Africa and after the 2010 World Cup Event I think even the deepest darkest corners of the world that did not know about us, now finally do. Maybe for once the world actually understands that we DON’T have lions and elephants in our backyards and that this country is just like any country with cities and infrastructure, except South Africa is a lot better than many other countries, even with all our problems.
But oh boy did South Africa make it’s mark on the world now. In the past when people thought South Africa they thought wildlife, lions, leopards, safaris and all sorts of interesting stuff but you have to wonder what’s the first word that springs to people’s minds now post World Cup 2010 …. I think that word is VUVUZELA !!!
I think South Africa will forever and a day be remembered for the Vuvuzela’s which dominated every single game during the World Cup, long after we were out of the runnings. Despite many attempts by the world to ban the vuvuzela, FIFA remained loyal to our culture and wishes and ignored those requests. Some international TV stations gave their viewers an option to de-vuvuzela their game viewing by clicking a button on their remotes. But it seems not all the world felt that way and Vuvzela’s have landed up in virtually every corner of the globe and I’m sure we’ll be seeing and hearing them from now until the end of time and I kinda hope they make it through to the next World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
So in essence South Africa gave the world a big blowjob and from the looks of things ….. a VERY memorable one too
